JOYRIDE

A folktale.
Re-interpreting social stereotypes and ways of having fun through community making and empowerment.

The Manor Estate and local surrounding area was once a well renowned destination for children and young adults to joyride on stolen vehicles around the estates web of roads and scrubland.
Enlisting the help of sign writer, Russ Young to share his skillset, we worked with 7 local youths to design, build and race their very own race cars.
This performative project, looked to re-interpret social stereotypes and ways of having fun through community making and empowerment.
The cars and teams have gone on to race in local soapbox races in South Yorkshire and been exhibited in Site Gallery and Millennium Gallery, Sheffield.

The project was supported by:
greenestate.org and the National Lottery Community Fund

Founded by Christopher Jarratt and Emilie Taylor, The Manor Maker project is part of this development.

The Manor Maker team work alongside local people to collaboratively research, design, run and
make changes to their local environment, through public artworks and events,
encouraging people to play a more active role in shaping where they live and work.
